Apostleship of Prayer - Saints

May 3 - Saints Philip and James

James was the son of Alphaeus. Nothing is known of James except that he was chosen by Jesus to one of His Apostles. We find both Philip and James in Matthew 10:3, in Mark 3: 18 and in Luke 6: 14, where the list of the Apostles is given.

Philip was born in the town of Bethsaida in Galilee as were Andrew and Peter. He was called by Jesus directly in John 1: 43 - 48.We find many other places in John's Gospel where there are references to Philip; in the feeding of the five thousand, John 6: 5-6; in John 14: 6 - 9 where he asks Jesus to show them the way to the Father, to which Jesus replied that whoever has seem Him has seen the Father; in John 12:21 - 22, where some Gentiles came to see Jesus.  As with the other apostles, Philip took a long time to recognize who Jesus was.
