Apostleship of Prayer - Saints
July 25 - ST. JAMES
Born at Betsaida, the brother of the John the Evangelist and the son of Zebedee. James and John received their call from Jesus when they were working with thier father in a fishing boat on the sea of Galilee. They left their father and followed Jesus.
James was also privileged to be a witness with Petr and John to see the transfiguration on the mountain top. He also witness the healing of the daughter of Jairus. He was present at the Agony in the Garden.
We also find him mentioned with his brother John in the incident in which their mother sought from Jesus that they be at his right and left haand when he comes into his Kingdom. (Matthew 20: 23 - 23)
Another incident when James and John are mentioned in the Gospels is when they are called the sons of Thunder by Jesus as they wanted to call fire and thunder down onto a Samaritan that had refused entry to Jesus on his way to Jerusalem. Lluke 9: 54 - 55)
James was the first of the Apostles to be martyred. (Acts 12: 1 - 3) King Herod had him killed about 42 AD. There is a great devotion to him in Compostella in Spain where there is a cathedral name after him.
He is not to be confused with James the author of The Letter of James or with the first bishop of the Jerusalem Community.
