August 10  - St Lawrence
        Lawrence was a deacon and a martyr. He was a deacon under Pope Sixtus II. He was placed in charge of the material goods of the Church. He was martyred in 258 under the Emperor Valerian. This all that is really known with any degree of certainty.
        One legend has it that a prefect of Rome demanded the riches of the Church to pay his soldiers. Lawrence collect the poor, the crippled, the blind and the orphaned of Rome. The prefect was not pleased at all. He commanded that Lawrence be executed. A huge gridiron was prepared over a slow coal fire so that the execution would take a long time. Lawrence was placed on the gridiron. the legend concludes with his famous remark: I am cooked enough in this side.  Please turn me over."
