Apostleship of Prayer - Saints
July 3 - Saint Thomas
Thomas was one of the inner circle of the followers of Jesus; he was an Apostle. He is famous for his doubt when the other apostles informed him that they had see the Lord. He was emphatic in his doubt when he said; "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe." His lack of faith was dispelled when the risen Jesus appeared to the Apostles again. Then Thomas response was that which proclaimed the completeness of the Easter Faith: "My Lord and My God."![]()
We know little about Thomas. In John's Gospel we find him going with Peter fishing by the sea of Galilee. However there is a tradition that he journeyed to India and preached the faith to the people there. In fact the people of Kerala call themselves Thomasene Christians after Thomas.
