November 15 - Albert the Great
Albert was born about 1506 in Swabia. He was the son of a German Count who objected quite strongly to Albert's joining the Order of St Dominic. Albert studied at he University of Paris where hegained a Doctorate. He taught theology there for many years and among his students was Thomas Aquinas. He was acknowledge as "the Great" by his contemporaries in recognition of his great intellectual powers. He readily made use of Aristotle's philosophy and logic and thereby initiated the Scholastic method which was further developed by Thomas Aquinas.
Albert died in 1280.
