Apostleship of Prayer - Saints
November 30 - Andrew
Andrew was born in Bethsaida. He was the brother of Peter and formerly a disciple of John the Baptist. He is often called the first disciple of Jesus because after John the Baptist pointed as Jesus as the Lamb of God he arose and followed Jesus.
Again "As Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fish for people." Immediately they left their nets and followed him." (Matthew 4:18 - 20) He is also mentioned in John's Gospel but little else is known of Andrew. When Jesus chose his apostles Andrew was among them.
With Philip he introduced the Gentiles to Jesus and he was an apostle. After Pentecost he preached the Gospel in Greece and Achaia where it is said that he was martyred. As he has been associated with Greece the shield of St. Andrew shows a white cross on a blue field. he also associated with Scotland. The Cross of St. Andrew represents Scotland on the Union Jack of Great Britain. He is the patron saint of Scotland.
