Apostleship of Prayer - Saints
November 12 - Josaphat
Josaphat was born in the Ukraine about 1580 with the name John Kuncewicz. It was after he had entered the Order of St Basil that he chose the name 'Josaphat'. He was ordained in 1609 and soon gained huge recommendations for his preaching. In 1617 he became Archbishhop of Polotsk in Russia. He worked hard for the reformation of his diocese and also for the union of the Ukrainian Church with Rome. Though he did not wish the Church to lose its rite there were many objectors to his suggestions. He was slained by his enemies in 1623 and was the first Eastern saint to be formally canonised by the western Church.
