Apostleship of Prayer - Saints

November 10th

On November 10th we find that the feast is that of Leo the Great. He was elected Pope while still a layman. He had had a brilliant career as a lawyer. He strove to preserve the integrity of the faith and the unity of the Church. He either repelled or alleviated the inroads of the barbarians. He is well known for his peace making efforts. he is well known for his his encounter with Atilla the Hun but we often forget that he was not so successful in another attack on Rome three years later. However he did managed to save Rome from burning.
He wrote many pastoral sermons on faith and charity and so we find many of his letters in the Daily Office. His writings on the Incarnation was acclaimed at the Council of Chalcedon in 451. His teaching has had a great influence on the Church and was the first Pope to have his writings so extensively preserved.
