Apostleship of Prayer - Saints

October 18th - Luke
Luke was born of a Gentile family and after his conversion he worked with Paul. From listening to Paul's sermons he wrote his two-volume work which consisted of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostle. These two volumes are really one book: they are the story of the Journey of Christianity from Bethlehem to Rome. Exegetes tell us that the Gospel was written between the years seventy and eighty five. What we also find is that large parts of Mark's Gospel has been included in Luke's Gospel, often in a different meaning-contenxt than Mark.
Tradition tells us that he was born in Antioch and Paul in Colossians 4: 14 calls him "our beloved physician". We find in Acts Luke journeying with Paul on his second journey and remained at Philippi for several years until Paul returned on his third journey. He travelled with Paul to Rome where Paul calls him his faithful companion, ("Only Luke is with me. 2 Timothy 4: 11)
Luke has been made the patron of Medical Guilds of Catholic Doctors as he was supposed to have been a doctor.
