October 28 - Simon and Jude
Simon the Zealot was one of the first Apostles chosen by Jesus. Zealot was seem to indicate that he belonged to a strict Jewish sect. After Pentecost he seems to disappear from the Gospels. Neverthe there are many various traditions about his subsequent life and martyrdom. Edessa is named as one of the places where he was martyred. Another legend teaches us that he first preached in Egypt where he was joined by Jude.After that they journey together to Persia where they were martyred. In the Golden Legend a falchion was described as the weapon by which hew was killed by the heathen priests.
